At MIS, Occupational Therapy support is embedded into the classrooms.
OT can significantly contribute to feeling safe within one’s body. By utilizing various sensory activities, our therapist helps students learn to better process and regulate sensory information from their body parts. This helps students become more attuned to their physical experiences, manage sensory input and reduce overwhelming sensations. In addition, exercises that focus on body position and movement can enhance awareness of one’s body in space.
Ultimately occupational therapy promotes a greater sense of control and safety in one’s physical self. Feeling safe in one’s body helps students become more regulated and allows better access to interacting, participating and learning in school. It addresses sensory and bodily needs and opens up more readiness to learn.
